Silvery Blue (Glaucopsyche lygdamus nittanyensis)

This beautiful spring butterfly is rare in Georgia flying as a single brood and seldom straying far from its host plant-Carolina Vetch.  Their flight tends to be low to the ground stopping frequently to nector or on sand to partake of moisture and minerals.
This colony was located by Michael Beohm(accompanied by Pierre Howard) who graciously shared the location with me.  All of the photographs  were taken on 4/18/2006 in Rabun County, Ga.
